Process evaluation in an INSET course

Keith Morrow1 and Marita Schocker2

1Keith Morrow was the Director of Studies for the Summer School which is reported in this paper. He works as a freelance EFL consultant and course organizer with a special interest in evaluation and assessment
2Marita Schocker was responsible for process evaluation on the course. She works as an EFL teacher and teacher trainer in Germany, and has carried out research into process-oriented approaches to teacher training.

This paper takes up a current theme in education, that of finding a methodology for in-service courses through which the skills and attitudes of teachers can be appropriately developed. We report on an attempt to help teachers develop awareness of the process by which learning takes place on an INSET course, to make the process explicit to themselves and, in doing so, make this awareness accessible for future action. The key means of achieving this was to engage participants in a continuous evaluation of the methodology and content of the course.
