Reflections on the purpose of methodology training
Lecturer in the Department of English Applied Linguistics at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary. She has extensive experience in teaching EFL at all levels, and has been training pre-service and in-service teachers of English for ten years. She is currently working towards a PhD on language learning strategies.
This article examines the purpose of the methodology course for in-service training.1 After considering the difficulties which arise when the trainees' and trainers' goals differ, the focus broadens to cover a more general training context; a model is then presented which allows trainers who recommend a learner-centred approach to put their ideas into practice.
